Attendance Policy

I will look to see how much time you are spending online. You will get out of this course what you put in. If you are doing poorly, it is likely that you are not expending the required energy on this class. Expect to put in >4 hours a week to be successful.

Academic Integrity

EMS Academic Integrity Statement:
Academic integrity is the pursuit of scholarly activity in an open, honest and responsible manner. Academic integrity is a basic guiding principle for all academic activity in the College, and all students taking classes within the College are expected to act in accordance with this principle. Consistent with this expectation, all students should act with personal integrity, respect other students' dignity, rights and property, and help create and maintain an environment in which all can succeed through the fruits of their efforts. Academic integrity includes a commitment not to engage in or tolerate acts of falsification, misrepresentation, or deception. Such acts of dishonesty violate the fundamental ethical principles of the EMS community and compromise the worth of work completed by others. To protect the rights and maintain the trust of honest students and support appropriate behavior, EMS faculty will regularly communicate high standards of integrity and reinforce them by taking reasonable steps to anticipate and alter acts of dishonesty in all assignments.
Violations will be dealt with according to policy set in the precedent guidelines for violations

Additional Information

Research

The use of internet-based student-centered teaching and learning has been described as a “bold move”. Part of what we have achieved in this course has been funded by Penn State and external agencies. This funding requires assessment of the leaning and teaching outcomes. Thus, by taking this course you are giving "implied consent" to the collection and dissemination of the data gathered in the course (homework's, quizzes, questioners, communications and exam answers). Your identity will not be associated with any of your work in the disseminated material. If you object to your inclusion you will be moved to another section (if taking the web based course) where data will not be disseminated in the reports, for the resident instruction course indicate to the instructor in writing not to include you in the data dissemination. You must be 18 or older to be included in the study (Office of Regulatory compliance regulation, unless your parents agree to your participation.) If you are not 18 please inform the instructor.

The data gathered will be used to improve the existing course and to determine the usefulness of technology enhanced learning & teaching. Your participation does not increase your workload and has no impact on your grade or access to the instructor. Your assistance in this matter is greatly appreciated. Please feel free to contact the instructor by phone, email or mail to ask questions concerning this study "Technology enhanced EGEE 101"
