Energy & Geo-environmental Engineering 101 Header

EGEE 101: Energy & the Environment GN (Dr. Mathews):

We will look into the issues surrounding the use of energy & the challenges to protecting our environment and the security of our energy sources. An overview of the material I cover is indicated in the image below.

Web only:

Through the course management system (Angel) we deliver an asynchronous replacement for the traditional class lectures. There are no preset class meeting times, you take the material via the web at a time when it is convenient for you. The material is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The web is utilized to deliver web pages that are rich in media content with animations, movies, audio, simulations, and interactive images. Communication will be online where you will be in a learning community with your classmates. Expect to interact more with me because of the medium not less. This class is available at University Park, Dubois, Delaware, and through Continuing Education at Harrisburg. You can view a sample lesson from this link: Lesson 10: Climate Change. More information on the Web Only offering is here.

Web Enhanced | Hybrid :
As a lover of technology I use the course management system (Angel), online computer based testing (TestPilot), with web pages with movies, animations, interactive images, simulations and audio. In this hybrid mode of delivery I only plan on meeting in class for 1/2 to 2/3 of the class periods. The remaining class periods to be asynchronous delivery of the material, via the web (sleep in, take the material when it is convenient, available 24 hours a day 7 days a week.) I do this for a few reasons: we can spend more of class time interacting and discussing the material rather in delivery mode, I think you will learn more, and have a fun experience. Expect to communicate and interact with me more because of the online component not less.

EGEE 102 Environmental Conservation GN (Dr. Pisupati):

You might also be interested in EGEE 102 “Environmental Conservation” or the full name of “Energy Conservation for Environmental Protection”. This class focuses on your personal energy use and how through conservation you will both protect the environment and save yourself cold hard cash in the process. It is a stand alone course with no prerequisites but would be a nice follow on course for EGEE 101 or a great companion course if you were to take 6 GN credits in the same semester (EGEE 101 & EGEE 102). The course will utilize class contact, experimental activities and your personal energy use for the basis of the calculations. There is no formal homework but there are reports for the various activities.
