Chat Rooms

This course includes a chat tool that allows for same-time, text-based communications. While we will not be using chat rooms for required activities in this course, you are welcome to "meet" classmates there for synchronous discussions. We've created a "Student Lounge" for that purpose.

Course Calendar

If you haven't found it already, please acquaint yourself with the course Calendar. The course calendar will be used to spell out key assignment due dates and other important course dates. Course Calendar events are displayed in three locations: on your "My Profile" page, the initial course "Welcome Page," and by clicking on the Calendar tab (above).

Course Mail

Our course utilizes a built-in e-mail system that will allow us to communicate one-on-one (or in small groups) with one another. By using the built-in system (which has its own class "address book,", we won't have the hassle of exchanging e-mail addresses! The course e-mail system works like many other e-mail applications, including the ability to create mail folders and send attachments.

Grades

Keep track of your grades throughout the semester! You can view a report of your online grades by going to the yellow "Tools" tab (above) then clicking "My Online Grades."

Groups

In ANGEL, any user can create a "Group." A group may be created for a study group, research group, focus group, committee, club, organization, or other purpose.

"In Touch" tab

The In Touch section of the course includes a private e-mail system, message boards, and chat rooms that you can use to communicate with everyone in your course.

Message Boards

The most successful students in this course are the ones who regularly read, respond to, and compose new message board postings. If you use the message boards skillfully, they can be very helpful communication tools. If not, then they can quickly turn into a big mess.

My Notes

The "My Notes" feature allows you to take notes right within an ANGEL course or group. You may use "My Notes" to remind yourself of important points within lessons, to note questions you wish to ask, or to draft outlines of assignments, among other purposes. If you are logged on to ANGEL during class meetings, you may take lecture notes within the ANGEL course.

Passwords

When you first activate your Penn State Access Account, you are given a fairly odd-looking password! One of the first things you'll want to do is to change that password to something more meaningful (and easier for you to remember). You will also want to change your password periodically for better security.

Quizzes

Quizzes may be used in this course to check your comprehension of the course materials. Depending on the settings your instructor has chosen, you may be able to view feedback in the form of your overall quiz grade, an answer key, or grader remarks.
