Lesson 2: Africa Geologic History and Paleontology

Summary

Africa has a long and complex history, both for the physical environment and biologic record. It is the landscape and rock and fossil record that tell Africa's geologic story. Technological advances such as radiometric dating allow us to investigate with greater detail the timing of events and sequences. Fossil discoveries from dinosaur bones to early hominids begin to fill in the pieces of the early life and evolutionary changes on the continent. There is still much to be learned about Africa's geologic history, and much more yet to be discovered.
