- ANGEL
Seminar Videos
Videos of ANGEL seminars can now be viewed at any time over the Web. Penn
State's Course Management System, ANGEL, allows instructors to use the
Web to
enhance
their courses without the need
to know HTML.
The free Apple QuickTime multimedia player is required to view
the
videos, which are made available for those unable to attend the face-to-face
seminars offered by Information Technology Services (ITS) Training Services.
Also available are videos of additional seminars of interest to instructors,
including "Copyright
in the Digital Age" and "Cyber-Plagiarism: Temptations for Students and Tactics for Teachers."
- TEACH Act and Copyright
As of November, 2002 the TEACH Act revised and expanded parts of the U.S. Copyright Law governing the conditions under which
faculty may use copyrighted materials without permission from the copyright owner. Understanding the implications
as they apply to on-line learning is imperative. The Information Technolody Services site (above) as well
as Useful URLs - Copyright
and Intellectual Property provide a
host of resources on the issues related to copyright, 'fair use', and intellectual property in educational
contexts.
- TurnItIn.com
From the ITS site, "Turnitin.com ( http://turnitin.com ) is
a Web-based plagiarism detection and prevention system owned by Turnitin.com,
Inc., to which Penn State has a subscription. Turnitin.com can
be used as a means to teach students how to work with sources and to raise
awareness of paraphrasing and quoting skills in order to avoid plagiarism." - Google Tips (movie)
A four minute long movie full of valuable tips for how to search the Web using Google.
